Let’s be honest: in Romagna the rain almost always passes. And if it really has to fall, you might as well take it as an excuse to slow down \u2014 a morning indoors and, at the end, that unhurried lunch you never allow yourself in summer. Here’s how to spend a rainy day in Cesenatico without getting bored.<\/p>\n

The Porto Canale museums, indoors<\/h2>\n

When the sky is grey, the Porto Canale is at its best under cover. The Maritime Museum (Museo della Marineria)<\/a> tells the story of the Adriatic’s historic boats: the land section is indoors (open daily in summer, usually 10 am\u201312 and 5\u201311 pm, a few euros \u2014 current opening times and tickets on the official website), while outside, on the water, the traditional trabaccoli keep their sails raised. A stone’s throw away, the Spazio Pantani<\/a> is the multimedia museum dedicated to cyclist Marco Pantani \u2014 worth an hour even in bad weather (days and times change with the season; more information on the official website). If the weather won’t let up: shopping and cinema<\/h2>\n

If the rain persists, the move is to head a little inland: the Romagna Shopping Valley<\/a> in Savignano (about ten minutes by car) brings together shops, eateries and the UCI<\/a> multiplex cinema. An afternoon entirely under cover that saves the day, especially with teenagers: shop hours and film listings on their official websites.<\/p>\n

With kids<\/h2>\n

For the little ones, the Butterfly House (Casa delle Farfalle)<\/a> in Milano Marittima is an indoor tropical greenhouse where butterflies fly free: perfect in bad weather. It opens seasonally (roughly late March to early October): season and opening times on the official website. And if you’re after some movement, an afternoon at a bowling alley inland \u2014 towards Cesena or Rimini \u2014 keeps young and old busy.<\/p>\n

And then, the long lunch (this is where we’re waiting for you)<\/h2>\n

But the truth is that a rainy day is the best day to do the one thing you never do in summer: sit down and eat slowly. No rush, no beach umbrella waiting \u2014 just a fish lunch that lasts as long as it should.<\/p>\n

And here’s a tip from us Romagnoli: forget the crush of the Porto Canale, with its hundred identical restaurants. If it’s raining, you’ve got time \u2014 it’s worth the ten minutes to come to us, in Villamarina, where you eat the real catch.
